How to make an ARC or Resident Card in Korea
All foreigners living in Korea for more than 90 days are required to obtain an Alien Registration Card (ARC) or Resident Card. You need this card in order to do major transactions in Korea, like opening bank accounts, making phone contracts, or verifying your identity online.
Common Required Documents to make an ARC:
- Application form
- Passport (Original and copy of biopage)
- Recent 3.5mm x 4.5 mm colored Passport photo with white background (eyes, eyebrows, and ears must be visible)
- Proof of Residence (House Contract)
- Medical Check-up records for tuberculosis
- (19 countries) China, Sri Lanka, Russia, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Nepal, East Timor, Indonesia, Pakistan, Mongolia, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Laos
- Students of these nationalities are required to submit the medical check-up report including the examination for tuberculosis issued from a neighborhood public health center.

Step by step process:
- Step 1: Gather your documents
- Step 2: Make a reservation for the immigration office and take note of your reservation number.
- Step 3: Visit the immigration at least 15 mins before your appointment
- Step 4: Wait to be called to a window
- Step 5: Submit the documents to the officer in charge. They will check if you need to submit additional documents
- Step 6: If your documents are accepted, you will be asked to pay for the card (30,000 won). If you want the card to be mailed to your address or office, an additional 3,000 won is added (delivery fee).
- Step 7: Pay the amount at the ATM (you can also do this step earlier)
- Step 8: Return to the immigration officer and submit the receipt. You will receive a Confirmation Document, you can use this document while you wait for the physical card to be delivered to you.
- Step 9: The officer will ask you to go to a different window to get your finger prints scanned
- Step 10: Once your fingerprints are scanned, and you have the confirmation document, all you have to do is wait for your Resident Card to be released.
- Step 11: You will recieve a message when it is time to pick up your card. If you chose for the card to be delivered, you have to personally accept and sign for the card so be sure to use an address that you frequent at.
