Types of Cherry Blossoms to look for 

 In Korea, cherry blossoms are not a one-size-fits-all spectacle. From whites to vibrant pinks, these flowers are bursting with vibrant colors and blooming at different times, these blossoms each have their own unique charm. Yoshino Cherry

These are the most common cherry blossoms in Korea. Most have pale pink or white petals. These are usually one of the first cherry blossoms to bloom in spring 

 

Double-flowered Cherry

These flowers bloom a bit late compared to the Yoshino cherries. They are distinct due to the pink multi-layered petals. A few of these flowers are found around parks, or even at Sadang station exit 5.

Weeping Cherry (Shidare)

The tree droops towards the ground, the flowers are usually a deeper pink. These are not as common as the other trees, but one is found at the main gate at SNU and a few more at Dongjak Seoul National Cemetery.

 

Taihaku

Also known as the Great white cherry. These are fairly commonly seen around mountains, especially around Gwanaksan in Seoul.

Fugenzo

The flowers are more on the pale pink side, these also have multi-layered petals.

Now where do you start looking for the best spots during your visit? Here are a few popular spots recommended by both locals and seasoned travelers.

 

Outside Seoul

Jinhae 진해

This is probably the most famous city for cherry blossoms in Korea. Join the bandwagon and go on a trip to Jinhae.

Sokcho 속초

Sokcho is a city near the east sea. It is well known for their fresh king crabs, seafood, and pristine beaches. Spring is also a good time to visit, enjoy the cherry blossoms at Yeongnangho (영랑호).

Tourists tend to flock to Korea during this time, so be sure to reserve your transportation tickets beforehand.

Within Seoul

Yeouido is the must go place in seoul for cherry blossoms. Have a picnic at the park or ride the bike around the river, the views are sure to leave you in awe.

Jamsil Seokcheon 잠실 석촌 호수

Seokcheon lake is another good spot to take a stroll while admiring the flowers along the lake. But you can also stray away from the crowds  while still being able to view the cherry blossoms by visiting a nearby apartment complex around Jamsil exit 5.
