F-1-D Korea Workcation Digital Nomad Visa

 This page is meant for applicants who wish to work remotely in Korea for a Singapore-based company for more than 90 days. Applicants must have an annual income of 84.96 million KRW (subjected to change) in order to apply for this visa. The South Korean government is working on creating a special visa for digital nomads. This new visa will make it easier for digital nomads to live and work in South Korea.

Who can apply for the workcation visa:

Foreigners who wish to work remotely for an employer in another country

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Annual Income of over 84.96 million won (USD 65,000) or 2x the GNI
  • No Criminal Record
  • Must have worked in hte field for at least 1 year
  • Foreigners who are currently in Korea uder  K-ETA or short term visa such as B-1, B-2, and C-3 may apply for the F-1-D visa

Where to apply:

  • Korean Embassies/Consulates outside Korea
  • Korean Immigration Office within Korea

 

Duration of Stay:

Up to 2 years*
*1 year is issued, then can be extended for another year.

 

Requirements for the Workcation visa

 Some country-specific documents may still be required for the application, please check your country's designated Korean embassy/consulate for the complete list.

  • Application form
  • Valid Passport (Original and Copy of biopage) with at least 6 months validity
  • Proof of Accomodations in Korea
  • Proof of Financial Capacity to live in Korea
    • Recent bank account statements (3 months)
  • Proof of Employment
  • Income Tax Return Documents
  • Medical Insurance
  • Criminal Records (Of home country and countries visited for more than 1 year)
  • Additional documents may be requested
    • For spouse: Marriage Certificate and confirmation of resignation or remote working arrangements
    • For minor child: Birth Certificate and school letter to conform leave of absence/withdrawal

 

Steps on how to apply for the Workcation visa

  • Step 1: Gather all your required documents and make sure that they are in a language that could be understood by the staff at the embassy/consulate (English or Korean)
  • Step 2: Make an appointment to visit the embassy or consulate in your home country, or the immigration office in Korea
  • Step 3: Visit the embassy/consulate/immigration office during the appointed time
  • Step 4: Wait for your turn to be called, or if there is a number system take one and wait your your turn
  • Step 5: Once you are called, go to the assigned window and submit the documents
  • Step 6: The office might ask a few questions about the application or might request additional documents to be submitted
  • Step 7: Once your application is accepted, you will be given a slip for the application confirmation. You can now leave the office and go back at the designated time
  • Step 8: Visit the office during the designated time and date to collect your passport
  • Step 9: Check whether you have been granted the visa and if the details on the visa are correct
