What do you do when you lose an item at the subway station?

Losing or finding an item in the subway can be a stressful experience. In this article, we'll guide you through the essential steps to take when faced with such a situation. From immediate actions to reporting procedures, understanding the systematic approach to handling lost or found items in the subway can make the process smoother and increase the chances of reuniting with your belongings or helping someone else do the same. Explore the steps ahead to navigate the subway's lost and found process with ease.

Step-by-step process to find a lost item

Step 1: If you have lost the item within the past 7 days, contact the Subway lost and found center or visit their office directly.

Step 2: Tell the subway staff what you have lost, and the item's details (Color, size, markings, etc.) where you last saw it, as well as the date and time.

Step 3: If the item has been lost for more than 7 days, check the LOST112 website or app. If the item was found, it will indicate which police station you can claim the item.

Step 4: If the item is not at the LOST112 platform, visit a police station to report the lost item. They will contact you if they have found the item.

Step 5: Visit the lost and found center or police station where your item is stored. Bring an ID or proof that you are the owner of the item (if possible)

1. Lost and Found Reporting Process

■ Items are found >>> ■ Sent to the Lost and Found Center/Station (Kept for 1-7 days and registered at the LOST112 platform) >>> Sent to the Police Station (Kept for 6-9 months) >>> ■ The item is now State Property

Items found within the station premises or on trains by station staff or other passengers are initially kept at the respective station. Lost items are promptly registered in the national lost and found management system, LOST112, a platform operated by the Korean National Police.

If the lost item is not claimed within 7 days at the station's lost and found center, it is transferred to the nearest police station. Subsequently, the police station responsible for lost and found management keeps the item for 6-9 months. If the owner does not claim the item during this period, it becomes the property of the state.
