Before the Cold Arrives: Check Your Gas Boiler Safely
A working hot-water tap does not prove that every part of a gas boiler is safe. Before regular winter heating begins, find the boiler’s model information and ask the landlord or building manager when it was last professionally inspected.
The Korea Gas Safety Corporation warns that poor ventilation, faulty exhaust connections and blocked exhaust routes can allow dangerous combustion gases into living spaces. Its guidance emphasizes adequate air supply, safe exhaust discharge and inspection of boilers and exhaust connections. 한국가스안전공사
Keep ventilation openings clear. Do not cover them to keep the room warm, store belongings against the appliance or alter the exhaust pipe. Leave repairs, installation and internal inspection to a qualified professional.
For a routine service request, prepare the model name, a photograph of the display and any error code. Describe when the problem occurs and whether heating, hot water or both are affected. Ask for the service visit and any agreed payment arrangement in writing.
If a carbon-monoxide alarm sounds, or people develop headache, dizziness or nausea while the boiler is running, leave for fresh air immediately and call 119 from a safe location. Do not stay inside to diagnose the fault or re-enter until emergency personnel say it is safe. Carbon monoxide cannot be reliably detected by smell.
Save the manufacturer’s service contact and your building manager’s number before a problem occurs.
