A foreign spouse living in Korea on an F6 marriage visa was unknowingly recruited as a voice phishing “money mule” (collection agent). Introduced by an acquaintance, she believed she was doing a simple part-time job involving picking up cash and delivering it to another person. In reality, the funds were linked to a voice phishing scheme, and she was investigated as a participant.
During police questioning, it became clear that:
She had no prior criminal history and was unaware of the fraudulent nature of the task.
She had been involved only once, without using her own bank account or communication tools.
After realizing the seriousness of the situation, she fully cooperated with investigators and provided truthful statements.
